With the new decade now upon us and the sparkle of the festivities fading away, January is always a great time to look ahead and discover what the New Year has in store. G Live, Guildford’s premier live events venue is excited to share with you their top 10 shows and experiences for 2020.

Admittedly with comedy greats like Jimmy Carr and Romesh Ranganathan, legends like Judy Collins, the thriving Guildford International Concert Season and even appearances from well-loved TV stars like Dick & Angel Strawbridge, selecting just 10 shows was tricky to say the least!

2020 is looking better than ever for the venue, which means that Guildford has some absolute crackers to look forward to this year…

1. HEATHERS THE MUSICAL – TUE 2 – SAT 6 JUNE 2020
Following two record-breaking seasons at London’s The Other Palace and West End transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket and having won the WhatsOnStage 2019 Award for Best New Musical, Heathers the Musical is not to be missed! This incredible adaptation of the cult 80s movie Heathers will transport you to Westerberg High, where popularity is so very a matter of life and death.

2. JOHN BISHOP – TUE 25 – THU 27 FEBRUARY 2020
The comedy legend himself will be stepping out onto the G Live stage for a whole run of performances to warm up his new show. The well- loved and utterly hilarious John Bishop, as seen on a number of incredible documentaries, is excited to hit the road once more in what is shaping up to be his best stand-up show yet.

3. STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL – MON 21 DECEMBER 2020 – SAT 2 JANUARY 2021
This amazing musical, based on the award-winning film phenomenon, will explode onto the G Live stage for a run of performances. With direction from Craig Revel Horwood (who will also be appearing at G Live in his show The All Balls and Glitter Tour), this quality musical spins you into the world of dancing where the stars learn that to win your steps don’t need to be strictly ballroom!

4. ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA – SAT 8 FEBRUARY 2020
Back for a second time in the Guildford International Concert Season 2019/20, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra promise to be as spectacular as their sold out performance in November. Invigorated by the New Year, the orchestra will delve into Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Dvořák’s exhilarating Symphony No. 9, From the New World.

5. THE MIGHTY KIDS BEATBOX COMEDY SHOW – SAT 14 MARCH 2020
You might not have heard of the stars of the show Jarred Christmas & Hobbit, but just ask your kids who are sure to hit the roof with excitement! As star of CBBC’s The Joke Machine and The Dog Ate My Homework Jarred Christmas is loved by mighty kids, and heads to Guildford with an interactive show that will teach you the skills you need to impress your friends with outrageous beatboxing whilst laughing your socks off at the hilarious antics of Jarred and UK Beatbox champion, Hobbit.

6. FOIL ARMS AND HOG: SWINES – FRI 24 APRIL 2020
Ireland’s top sketch comedy trio, and YouTube sensations with over 100 million hits, are best experienced live! Having achieved critical acclaim with the best reviewed show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, their scripted nonsense, twisted comedy characters, music and unintentional improvisation is sure have you smiling this year.

7. BALLETBOYZ: DELUXE – FRI 15 MAY 2020
This outstanding show of mind-blowing contemporary dance fuses the work of some of the world’s most exciting and innovative choreographers and composers. Chinese dancer and choreographer Xie Xin creates a work set to an original score by composer Jiang Shao-feng, whilst Maxine Doyle collaborates with jazz musician and composer Cassie Kinoshi.

8. ASK ME ANYTHING – TUE 25 – WED 26 FEBRUARY 2020
G Live is excited to add to its programme Ask Me Anything a show for teenagers and young people by the acclaimed Paper Birds theatre company. A response to over 100 letters written by young people this will be a loud, live, love song to not having it all figured out. Already close to being sold out there is a high demand for shows that connect with young people and G Live plans to expand its contemporary theatre programme to bring ever more exciting experiences to Guildford.

9. THE GUILTY FEMINIST: LIVE WITH DEBORAH FRANCES-WHITE – THU 7 MAY 2020
Fans of the podcast, which has received over 70 million downloads since it started in 2015, will be excited to hear the famous opening words ‘I’m a feminist but…’ when Deborah Frances-White takes to the stage! In this fantastically comical show she explored 21st century feminism and the hypocrisies that undermine it along with some of your favourite comedians, guests and musicians. This show will not be recorded for the podcast, so the only way to experience it is live!
