G Live Scoops Top Awards At Hq Theatre’s Annual Celebration Of Excellence

- Advertisment -

Guildford’s leading live entertainment venue G Live has picked up a host of top industry awards including Venue of the Year at a glitzy theatre and hospitality awards ceremony at Southend’s prestigious Cliff’s Pavilion earlier this week.

HQT&H’s Celebration of Excellence, an annual awards event which celebrates the hard work, dedication and success of twelve leading UK arts venues including Watford Colosseum, the White Rock Theatre, Hastings and Crewe Lyceum saw G Live pick up a host of shortlisted nominations as well as five awards across the ceremony.

Accepting the evening’s headline award, G Live’s Venue Director Derek Aldridge said: “I am delighted for every single person who has contributed to us being awarded Venue of the Year for 2019.

“From our team of passionate and committed volunteers, outstanding pool of casual staff and the permanent team who have elevated the venue to new heights; I am so proud to lead the team and feel we have a huge potential to achieve even more in the years ahead.”

In addition to being crowned Venue of the Year, G Live received wide recognition for its thriving community and education activities, its Four Pillars customer experience training programme and its outstanding conferencing and hospitality offer.

In all, G Live picked up three of the night’s nine major awards; including an individual award celebrating excellence in Technical Production for its Facilities and Building Manager, Jon Ross; and the ‘Behind-the-Scenes Award’ for its Administration Team of Phoebe Richards, Amanda Hamilton, Alison Flynn and Claire Flynn – who were rewarded for consistently achieving levels of excellence in pushing the building forward.

The evening also saw Erica Esterhuysen and Kumar Selvakumaran receive awards for demonstrating individual excellence over the last twelve months in conferencing and hospitality and customer experience, respectively.

Mr Aldridge, who was appointed as G Live Theatre Director in January 2019 continued “We’re building on the successes of the past 10 years at G Live.  The whole team takes great pride in being at the heart of Guildford’s cultural life; and I hope today’s awards will make the town proud.”
“Our success will always depend upon our wonderful audiences, so I want to say a big thank you for the continued support of the wider-Guildford community. We share these awards with you!”

This latest flurry of awards for G Live come quickly off the back of the news it has been shortlisted alongside attractions like the Table Mountain Cable Car, Seattle’s Space Needle and prominent London venues Shakespeare’s Globe and The O2 Arena – for the Most Inclusive Building Award in the highly-prestigious Blue Badge Awards (BBA).

Recognising the sector-leading accessibility and inclusivity achievements of the building, G Live has also been shortlisted for the BBA Euan’s Guide People’s Choice Award, and you can vote to help see G Live win another award.
